360 degree CCTV Footage

Published on January 28th, 2012 by in Latest

How about a 360 degree view of your home or office or wherever you wish to see ? The technology has been there for a while. And looks like its headed down the electronic price slide. If you used Google StreetView I am sure you appreciate the ability to stop where you wish, look in the direction you wish to; and then go up….all the way up. Or go down, right, left. As if you are standing there and you can see the way you wish to. That is panoramas stitched out of still photos with certain overlap that are taken in the StreetView cars or by the folks who move around with the tripod carrying those cameras in places and areas StreetView cars can’t drive in. All those images have a timestamp. Means if the picture was taken six months back or two years ago; that is the time at which you are seeing

Walk Out Of A Screen And Then Slip Back In ?

Published on January 17th, 2012 by in Latest

I happened to be watching this movie recently; it was all about the future of gaming, and doing it live with robot kinda creatures. This is how the scene goes. The gaming company owner hasn’t made it to the meeting attended by some hundred folks and his secretary is explaining that Mr Owner is appearing on a video call. So the audience sees him on the screen wall. And the secretary continues saying they are about to demo their latest technology whereby Mr Owner will walk out of the screen on the stage, and walk around and take questions from the audience. And he does it. A silhoutte kind of 3D image taking a human form appears on the stage, walks around talking, answering questions and entertaining an already engaged audience. That made me wonder. Are we really far from seeing this in our homes and offices ? I don’t think so. The technology is already there. Mass

Telepathy

Published on January 17th, 2012 by in Latest

Have you experienced Deja Vu ? You are driving down to a city you have never been; and as you enter, it all feels like you have been here before. You are able to guess a giant billboard on the left after you take the second right turn. And you are right! Sometime earlier while you lay asleep and dreaming your mind had already driven through this route and has kept all the vivid pictures. Its a perfect example of the fundamental spirit communicating to our mind. Do you think telepathy is real ? Or that it works ? OK watch this Watch this video on YouTube. It wasn’t magic. Or you think of someone and that person appears, kind of startling you with how it could happen at this time and place. That is telepathy. Makes me wonder how could we devise “Think of the Devil and the Devil is here”. May be folks

SCADA

Published on January 16th, 2012 by in Latest

SCADA has been around for decades. Used by utilities, plants to remotely monitor vital installations. Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition. The main goal of SCADA is to monitor, control and alarm plant or regional operating systems from a central location. For example, in a municipal context, “plant” systems are typically water and wastewater treatment facilities, while “regional” systems include intake and/or effluent structures, pumping stations, chlorination stations, control valve stations and the like. There are three main elements to a SCADA system, various RTU’s (Remote Telemetry Units), communications and an HMI (Human Machine Interface). Each RTU effectively collects information at a site, while communications bring that information from the various plant or regional RTU sites to a central location, and occasionally returns instructions to the RTU. The HMI displays this information in an easily understood graphics form, archives the data received, transmits alarms and permits operator control as required. Communication within a plant will be

How Motes Are Used To Detect Landmines

Published on January 16th, 2012 by in Latest

First used in the Iraq war; wireless sensor networking units are airdropped along a highway or trail. The tiny self powered objects can detect each other and communicate through a daisy chain scenario. Each such mote is also sensor enabled; so it can detect a nearby landmine for example. Peace time uses include temperature, pressure and all sorts of other sensors. When something is detected, it passes on to its daisy chain. That gets passed over to the next mote and its daisy chain. Sometimes remote communication modems like RF or GSM or CDMA or even Satellite are used to pass over the information hundreds or thousands of miles away. Wherever you are, you are in touch with whether this road or place is bugged or not. Another brilliant example of virtual access!
